Hyaluronic Acid (Ostenil)

Overview

Hyaluronic acid injections, such as Ostenil, are designed to lubricate and cushion the joint, mimicking healthy synovial fluid. This non-steroidal option is used to improve joint function and reduce pain in mild to moderate knee osteoarthritis.

Mechanism of Action

Ostenil is injected directly into the joint space, where it supplements natural hyaluronic acid, improving viscosity and shock absorption.

Efficacy

Relief from symptoms is gradual and typically lasts for three to six months. Multiple injections may be needed for sustained benefit.

Safety and Side Effects

Ostenil is generally safe, with mild swelling, discomfort, or stiffness occasionally experienced at the injection site. Serious adverse effects are rare.

Other injection options: Ostenil is one of several knee injection treatments available. If you need longer-lasting relief, Arthrosamid hydrogel injections may be more suitable; platelet-rich plasma (PRP) uses your own blood to support healing, and a steroid and local anaesthetic injection gives faster short-term relief. To discuss which is right for you, book a consultation or review the treatment fees.
